Island Mushrooms, Plants And Trees
Plants, Mushrooms and trees grow only where their particular needs are met. The soil might need to be
hard packed and dry or wet and soggy. Maybe the plants need gravel or coarse sand for their needs. They might need to grow in alkaline soil or maybe they need a rich soil.
The point is, a plant grows where its conditions for life are met, so to locate a particular plant, you just need to know what conditions it needs, then search there for it.
Vancouver Island has a very diverse population of plants and trees. We live in a rainforest that gets an abundance of rainfall and most of the plants here are plants that like wet conditions although some parts of the south island are dry and get very little rain, these areas produce a variety of desert like plants and cacti.
The alpine areas of the Island have a great variety of wild flowers that in the late spring/early summer can overwhelm the senses and take your breath away.
So get out and see the island and learn about the plants, many are edible and some are used as medicine. You will be amazed at the diversity of our Island plants.
