Flores Island

Last      Next         Return To The Outer Islands

Flores Island is located in Clayoquot Sound. Visitors to the island can enjoy hiking, fishing, whale watching, camping, kayaking and so much more. This beautiful, pristine wilderness area contains undisturbed watersheds with old growth forest stands of Sitka spruce and red Cedar.

There is many great hiking opportunities on Flores Island but the best is the wild side trail, a trail that extends 10 km from the village of Ahousaht to Cow Bay. First Nation peoples have used this route for many years to gain access to the west side of the island.

From the shores of Flores Island you can see Gray whales that pass by the Island in their annual migration that takes them by the outer Coast of Vancouver Island.

Gray whales also use the bays for feeding during the summer. Visitors come from around the world to kayak the waters of Clayoquot Sound and the beautiful Flores Island, a trip of a lifetime.

The park lies in the traditional territory of the Ahousaht First Nations. Flores Island Park contains many Nuu-chah-nulth First Nations heritage sites, including middens and Culturally Modified Trees. Please do not disturb these areas.

The wild life here is awesome with black bears, Deer, Cougars and wolves, lots of Wolves. The wolf population is quite large and you should take all precautions in looking after your supplies, hang them between two trees to insure the wolves do not get it, please leave your dogs at home and if you must bring them, keep them on a line so the wolves do not get them.

When you vist, bring your camera and take home some memories.
