Durrance lake is quite close to Victoria and receives a great deal of fishing pressure, tha
t said, the lake contains Small Mouth Bass and stocked Rainbow Trout and Cutthroat Trout in good numbers.
The best fishing is in April to June and again in September and October.
You can expect to catch fish averaging between 30 to 40 cm in length but every once in a while a big fish is pulled from this lake.
Durrance Lake is located in the Mount Work Regional Park, facilities include a dock and picnic area plus an electric motor only cartop boat launch.
There are a number of trails in the park, including a somewhat tough trail that takes you to to the summit where you can some great views. The trail to the summit meanders through natural glacial rock formations. Please stay on the trails, so as not to damage the deep moss ground cover.
Durrance Lake is the best lake in the park and the easiest to reach, it is a great spot to have a picnic. The water is great for swimming. The lake is surrounded by forest and sits between two small mountains.
There is a great hiking trail that lets you walk around the lake.There are trails open to mountain biking that lie on the east slope of Mount Work. These trails go from beginners trails to extreme pro trails, be careful and always be ready for hazards here.
You can expect to see many types of birds here as well as a variety of animals.
